Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for someone who is ambitious, personable and passionately committed to true Indigenous Climate Justice to serve as its Director of Programming.


This position requires a deep understanding of the intersectional approaches of climate justice, Indigenous rights and community driven approaches to research, education and training.


This is a remote, work from home, online working position with priority given to Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada.

Summary of Position


The Director of Programming
(DoP)
will provide strategic guidance and support for the Explore and Blossom Pod to do the following: nurture and stewards ICA programs; nurture and steward ICA education & trainings; build team goals, pod budgets and program evaluation processes; nurture and build partnerships to achieve goals; identify and facilitate research projects; identify and facilitate improvements for ICA’s existing and emergent programs; and improve overall program quality.


Under the guidance of the Executive Director, and in close collaboration with the Explore & Blossom Pod and the Leadership Team, the Director of Programming will plan, expand and manage long-term, strategic organizational education & training, research & policy and other program initiatives. The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:


    COMPENTENCIES:

    • Able to communicate effectively, in writing and orally, with a wide variety of people.
    • Able to conduct and analyze Indigenous-led research.
    • Expertise in evaluating programs, and the skills to adjust to make them more impactful 
    • Proven experience and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples rights and worldviews, Indigenous Community Frontline challenges and Decolonial pedagogies. 
    • Proven existing and ongoing community relationships relevant for supporting Indigenous-led education and programs for climate justice. 
    • Proven experience with budget development, tracking and reporting
    • Proven experience working independently and remotely, including managing a remote team.
    • Proven experience with remote team management including conflict resolutions and healthy workplace management. 
    • Experience working with Multi-media platforms (slack, monday, social media, etc) to organize and manage projects and teams.


    DUTIES: 

    • Developing Pod work plans, budgets and strategic process in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Leadership Team and Pod Managers to ensure program directives within the Explore & Blossom Pod operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values  
    • Manage pod work plans and budgets including tracking and evaluation of pod team members, projects and overall deliverables and goals. 
    • Supporting fundraising efforts and reports for pod goals and deliverables.
    • Managing and tracking all partnerships and relationships for pod within ICA’s CRM system and in collaboration with the Inform & Connect team. 
    • Develop and manage pod partnerships and engagement strategies and activities including but not limited to advisory councils, newsletters and social media campaigns and other engagement activities, with support from the Inform & Connect team. 
    • Oversight and day to day management of Pod members, including 1:1 manager oversight and meetings. 
    • Provide effective guidance and training to Pod members to achieve pod goals including programmatic alignment and evaluation of best practices to increase efficiency and effectiveness of programs and projects.
    • Provide expertise, insight and analysis on new and emergent programs to support emergent needs and drive a strategic direction of the work of the Explore & Blossom Pod.
    • Identify trends and patterns that lead to Pod program and project improvements.
    • In collaboration with the Leadership team identify, build and provide program training internally to ensure organizational capacity building to allow broader team development.  
    • Work with Pod Managers and the Leadership team to facilitate and implement and expand the impact of ICA’s Education & Programming offerings. 
    • In collaboration with the Inform & Connect Pod, plan and implement strategic communications, outreach, and technology integration for all programs.
    • Working with the Executive Director and the Fiscal Leadership Team to manage Pod budgets and budget narratives. 
    • Develop and submit quarterly and annual reports as required.
    • Attend meetings as required.
    • Other assigned duties


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's Degree in a field such as Education and/or Indigenous-led research or related area preferred. Equivalent life experience will be considered. 
    • 7-10 years of experience in a Senior leadership and management role.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in use Google Suite, project management systems, excel and CRM systems
    • Proven experience in popular education and/or traditional educational curriculum including research and development
    • Proven experience and knowledge of Climate Justice, Just Transition and Climate Policy at the provincial, national and international levels 
    • Have existing community relationships relevant for supporting Indigenous-led climate justice initiatives and work
    • Experience with online and offline community based consultation and engagement
    • Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and structures that challenges systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism is an asset.
    • Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language an asset



    The position is full time and entails a 30-35 hours work week as per ICA’s Four Day work week policy, however, travel and evening/weekend hours may be required from time to time. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations. This position includes a 6 months probationary period before full benefits will be implemented. ICA offers fully covered health benefits and other employee rewards and compensation including monthly office subsidies, additional leave and professional development. A Criminal Record Check along with Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks may be required conditions of employment.  ICA can assist with this process if need be.
