Finance Summer Student (Xero Focus)

Position Summary

Innovatia Technical Services is a professional services organization providing technology and business services across North America. As part of our ongoing financial systems modernization, we are implementing Xero as our core financial platform and are seeking a motivated Finance Summer Student to support this transition and assist the finance team during the summer vacation period (April 2026 – August 2026).

We are looking for a senior-level post-secondary student in a finance, accounting, or business program who has hands-on experience with Xero, particularly in building and working with financial reports. This role will support financial reporting and analysis within Xero, day-to-day finance operations, and coverage for routine finance tasks while full-time staff are on vacation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student completing a co-op or work term, or nearing the completion of their academic program, to gain real-world experience in a growing professional services organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, customize, and maintain financial reports in Xero.
• Assist with general accounting and finance tasks (e.g., reconciliations, reporting support).
• Support ongoing Xero implementation and process refinement.
• Perform routine finance activities typically handled by full-time staff during vacation periods.
• Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and administrative tasks as required.
• Work collaboratively with finance and operations team members in a remote environment.

Required Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college or university program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Practical experience using Xero, including financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting and financial concepts.
• Proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of most academic requirements (final year or near completion).
• Prior co-op, internship, or work-term experience in a finance or accounting role.
• Experience supporting month-end or management reporting.
• Located in Saint John, NB (preferred but not required).

A Note on Location
