About Odd Bunch

Odd Bunch is on a mission to make fresh produce more affordable and accessible across Canada. We are a fast-growing, sustainable subscription-based produce service, helping Canadians save thousands of dollars on their grocery bills, supporting local farmers, fighting food waste, donating to families suffering from food insecurity, and building a better planet in the process.

We currently operate in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with most of our team located in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and London.

About The Role

We're building a grocery and pantry vertical that takes our rescue-first model beyond produce. Think shelf-stable products: pasta, rice & grains, sauces & marinades, snacks, bakery items, and other cooking staples. Products that are overproduced, surplus, short-dated, or cosmetically imperfect. The kind of stuff that ends up in landfill because it didn't sell fast enough or the label was printed wrong. We think that's a problem worth solving.

The General Manager, Pantry role is the first hire for this vertical. You're not plugging into an existing function. You're creating one.

We need someone who can build net new supplier relationships and a product pipeline from scratch. There's no vendor list. No playbook. No approval workflow to sit behind. The person in this role will go find the supply, figure out what belongs in our boxes, while maintaining a close eye on economics and user feedback throughout the process. This new business line is being built on top of the existing Odd Bunch platform that already serves tens of thousands of Canadians every week, with triple digit year-over-year growth over the last three years. The foundation is there. The pantry vertical is the next layer, and the leader who builds it will have real ownership over what it becomes.

You'll report directly to the CEO and work closely with a strong team across marketing, operations, and inventory who already know how to scale an impact-first subscription business. There's meaningful support around you, but the direction of this business line is yours to shape.

What You’ll Do

Supplier Development & Sourcing

  • Build relationships with Canadian CPG manufacturers, food distributors, liquidation companies, and surplus brokers. Direct outreach is part of the job. So is showing up in person when it matters
  • Identify and secure opportunistic supply: overproduced inventory, cosmetic rejects, short-dated products, surplus stock, and anything else that should be ending up on plates instead of in the landfill
  • Develop a growing pipeline of pantry product suppliers across dry goods, bakery, sauces, snacks, canned products, and adjacent categories
  • Negotiate landed costs and supply terms that work within our margin structure
  • Champion Odd Bunch's rescue-first mission. Be the person suppliers want to work with because you actually understand their waste problem and can offer real solutions; not just for them, but for the food system & environment at large
  • Think beyond obvious sourcing channels. Major manufacturers are one channel, but so are emerging Canadian DTC brands, regional wholesale distributors, and food liquidation networks

Product Curation & Box Strategy

  • Define what a weekly pantry box actually looks like. Which products anchor the rotation, which ones rotate seasonally, how the mix stays fresh for someone who's been subscribed for a year
  • Balance familiar pantry staples with items that surprise and keep people engaged
  • Work closely with the marketing, operations, and inventory teams to align what goes in our boxes vs. what customers actually want, while balancing operational & supply chain feasibility
  • Build a strong understanding of our subscriber base. What do they want, what will they try, what keeps them coming back

Unit Economics & P&L Ownership

  • Own the margin structure for the pantry business line, from landed cost per item to box-level profitability
  • Build and iterate on the financial model as the vertical scales. Find the opportunities to improve unit economics without cutting corners on product quality
  • Track the metrics that matter: cost per box, margin per SKU, supplier diversification, category mix
  • Work with the team to set pricing strategy and growth targets

Brand & Storytelling

  • Be a visible champion of the pantry vertical, both internally and with external stakeholders
  • Help bring supplier stories and sourcing narratives to life for our community. Reducing food waste is the purpose behind everything we do at Odd Bunch, and this role needs someone who can communicate that clearly and authentically
  • Represent Odd Bunch at industry events, supplier meetings, and throughout partnership discussions

What We’re Looking For

  • 2-4+ years of experience in CPG, food, retail buying, business development, partnerships, or adjacent functions. We care more about your drive and instincts than the exact title on your last business card
  • A natural relationship builder. Someone who's comfortable reaching out to people they've never met and earning trust quickly
  • Analytical and commercially minded. You understand margins, you can work through a P&L, and the idea of ownership genuinely excites you
  • A self-starter who doesn't wait for a perfect brief or a warm introduction
  • Strong communicator who can pitch a vision to a room of senior executives, design a proposal, write sharp follow-ups, and nurture long-term relationships with poise
  • Digitally native. You leverage tools and systems to operate efficiently & optimize your work flows
  • Passionate about food, sustainability, reducing waste, and building a better food system for people & the planet
  • Note, proficiency in all of the above is not expected. We’re looking for a well-rounded individual who brings depth in certain areas and a willingness to learn and grow in others

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in food sourcing, procurement, or supply chain, particularly in organizations that required a unique product mix, surplus, liquidation, or short-dated product channels
  • Background in CPG, food distribution, grocery, or a DTC food brand
  • Familiarity with the Canadian food manufacturing and distribution landscape
  • Experience building from scratch: a new product line, a new market, a new function inside an established growing company
  • A degree from a top business or commerce program is a plus, but not a requirement

What We Offer

  • Health plan available after 6 months
  • RRSP and pension plan available at 12 months
  • Free grocery plan
  • 20 days PTO
  • Remote role based in Canada (Toronto preferred for supplier relationship development)
  • Real ownership & growth potential. You're not filling a role, you're building a function that could define the next chapter at Odd Bunch
  • Annual bonus potential tied to commercial & personal milestones
