The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
The Communications and Investor Education (C&IE) division provides strategic communications counsel and support to all areas of the ASC to engage and educate internal and external stakeholders. The team promotes consistent, relevant and timely communication through media relations, investor education, corporate communications, public information and internal communications. The team also serves as the contact resource for all Albertans looking for information from the ASC.
Investment fraud and other market misconduct can have serious financial, psychological and emotional impact on victims and their families. Those who have been harmed and are interacting with the ASC to help protect others have many emotions and are likely confused and stressed. This is exacerbated by the fact that many investors do not understand the role of the ASC, what it does and how it functions. To address this gap, the ASC is looking to add the new position of Investor Support Officer. This new position will serve as a central point of contact and be responsible for providing enhanced support to people who have been harmed through investment fraud and other market misconduct. A key aspect of this role will be to help harmed investors understand the role of the ASC and how it can help, and where it cannot.
If you genuinely care about Albertans’ financial well-being, have an empathetic and understanding ear, and a desire to improve the information and support available to investors who have been victimized, consider applying for the role of Investor Support Officer.
The Investor Support Officer is not an investor advocate position. The purpose of this role is to provide support and information, and to provide referrals to appropriate community resources (e.g. legal aid, psychologists, advocacy groups, etc.) as necessary.
