Position Summary

As an Oracle Database Administrator at Medavie Inc., you will oversee and enhance our Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MySQL environments. You’ll manage installations, upgrades, migrations, patching, and configuration changes while ensuring full compliance with established processes and audit standards. Your work will focus on maintaining secure, reliable, and high‑performing database services through automation, monitoring, tuning, and continuous improvement.

You’ll collaborate closely with development and operational teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize queries, support PL/SQL needs, and assist with application releases and project initiatives. You will also respond to customer and internal service requests with professionalism and clear documentation. In this role, you’ll refine automated processes, contribute to database design, evaluate and configure software tools, and support cross‑team IT projects. You’ll maintain accurate documentation and help shape the ongoing evolution of Medavie’s database services.

Success in this position requires the ability to work independently from home or the office, stay composed during high‑pressure production issues, manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment, and participate in a rotating on‑call schedule with reliable remote access.

  

Key Responsibilities

As an Oracle Database Administrator for Medavie Inc's Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MYSQL databases, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform research, recommendations, database installs, migrations, upgrades, patching and database configuration changes while following processes and remaining compliant with audit standards.

  • Automate, monitor, manage, secure, tune, improve and support database services processes within Medavie Inc’s infrastructure and deliver great results while following processes and remaining compliant with audit standards.

  • Support and collaborate with development and operational support teams in troubleshooting, problem solving, query tuning, testing, and deploying application releases, corporate project initiatives and changes.

  • Provide PL/SQL support to end users and developers.

  • Interact with customers, answer questions, and respond to service requests and help desk requests within the required service levels and clearly document actions taken.

  • Analyze, enhance, troubleshoot, and modify automated processes, maintenance activities and procedures and/or improve existing ones.

  • Research, recommend, create, and support databases and database objects.

  • Develop logical and physical database designs.

  • Evaluate, install, and configure database software products and related software.

  • Initiate, plan, and implement projects focused within the Oracle Database Services team as well as across other Information Technology teams.

  • Create and maintain documentation for Medavie Inc.’s database services and software products.

 

On-Call Rotation: Must be able to participate in a rotating on-call support process with the ability to be remotely connected within the required service level.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business or related field or College Diploma in related filed of study and/or equivalent experience 

  • Work Experience: Possess minimum 5 years of Oracle database administration experience or application development experience working with databases. Have experience working with UNIX and Windows operating system, Linux Bash/Shell scripting, Oracle Datapump utility, SQLPlus, and PLSQL.

  • Other Qualifications: Knowledge of GitLab, Discoverer, Oracle reports, ITIL, SOA and RUP methodologies will be considered an asset.

  • Computer Skills: Have experience working with some or all of the following database and reporting products: Oracle database, MSSQL database, MySQL database, SQL Language, PL SQL Developer, Oracle Discoverer, Cognos, Crystal Reports, Hyperion, Oracle Designer and Enterprise Architect.

Language Skills: English (Written and Spoken) is required.  French (Spoken) is an asset.

Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B).  This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.

Pay Grade:

88,158 - 99,177 CAD

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
