Since 1976, Tarion has served new home buyers and new homeowners by ensuring that one of their life’s biggest investments is protected. About the Role

The Tarion Finance team is responsible for financial reporting and control, tax and compliance, strategic planning and financial Planning & analysis, Treasury and working capital management, and capital budgeting.

The primary purpose of this role is to perform financial analysis and reporting as well as participate in project related work. Areas include financial reporting, budget and forecast, financial projects, system implementation, process improvement, research and analysis on new and emerging issues, and subject matter expert on tax related matters and financial accounting standards.

This position follows a hybrid working policy, requiring two (2) days per week in our office and three (3) days working remotely. In order to assist with onboarding and workplace introductions, new hires will be required to work four (4) days in office per week during their first three (3) months of service. (All remote work must be completed from your home office within the province of Ontario.)

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and conduct thorough financial analysis (i.e. variance analysis, trend analysis, and financial performance metrics) to identify key insights and drivers impacting the company's financial results.
  • Be the subject matter expert and conduct research and implementation of new accounting standards, tax, and pension fund reporting matters to maintain compliance.
  • Participate in financial projects to help provide actionable insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and business initiatives.
  • Support the annual budget and forecast process, as required.
  • Support the monthly and year-end financial reporting process including the review of reconciliations and assistance with the interim and year-end financial statement audit and actuarial valuation.
  • Responsible for the review and updating of finance related policies to ensure current best practices.
  • Provide ad-hoc research and analysis to drive informed decision-making for senior management.
  • Complete other ad-hoc job-related duties as assigned.


    A great candidate for this position will have:

    • CPA designation required
    • 5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis and reporting
    • Solid knowledge of financial accounting terms and concepts
    • A quick learner with strong problem-solving skills
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required
    • Excellent analytical and strategic thinker with good written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to balance multiple assignments, both immediate and strategic, at the same time
    • Knowledge of IFRS 17 is an asset
    • Experience with sophisticated ERP system with multiple integrations is an asset
    • Ability to provide an innovative perspective to current practices
    • Previous experience Financial Services or Insurance industry experience is an asset
    • Proven ability to embrace change and adapt to new technology
