- CPP is imminently launching a major nation-wide engagement campaign to dramatically shift practices toward a circular economy of plastics across all industries. The Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications will play a leading role in development and execution of this campaign.
Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for CPP’s marketing and communications strategy and execution to elevate our voice, engage our Partners, and accelerate Canada’s transition to a circular plastics economy.
Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership
- Lead CPP’s communications and position CPP as a top voice in Canada’s circular plastics transition.
- Drive strategy and lead the execution of a multi-channel marketing and communications strategy aligned with CPP’s strategic priorities, including brand positioning, audience segmentation and consistent brand messaging across all touchpoints.
- Lead ongoing alignment of messaging with Generate Canada, the Global Plastics Pact Network, and other key collaborators identified by senior leadership.
- Lead design and execution of key events including an annual Partner Summit.
- Shape CPP’s strategy by actively monitoring and interpreting relevant news coverage, public discourse, and emerging narratives related to plastics, circularity, and climate to inform positioning and ensure messaging remains current and credible.
- Prepare talking points, media kits, and briefing materials for CPP leadership and Partner representatives as needed.
Campaigns, Content & Digital Engagement
- Lead the development and execution of integrated campaigns to mobilize public awareness and national momentum toward a circular plastics economy.
- Create compelling content across platforms and formats, including reports, press releases, op-eds, social media, podcasts, videos, and web copy.
- Strengthen CPP’s brand visibility and credibility through coordinated communications that highlight impact, share Partner initiatives, and amplify CPP’s leadership voice across Canada’s plastics value chain.
- Lead strategic communications, marketing, and logistics of high-quality, effective and impactful in-person and virtual events.
- Manage CPP’s digital assets (website, internal platform for Partners, LinkedIn, newsletters, etc.) as core channels for stakeholder engagement, storytelling, and thought leadership.
- Ensure that content and campaigns are optimized for digital, using analytics to refine messaging, increase reach, and deepen engagement.
Partner Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across Generate Canada, the Global Plastics Pact Network and others to ensure alignment and strengthen collective impact.
- Build and maintain relationships with CPP Partners to surface stories, identify risks, prioritize event participation, and inform marketing & communications strategies.
- Develop marketing materials and toolkits that support Partner recruitment, retention, and internal communications.
- Lead logistics and communications for CPP-hosted events, workshops, and webinars.
- Lead and/or support key working groups, integrating insights shared into broader storytelling and engagement efforts.
Project Management & Resource Coordination
- Plan and manage timelines for communications campaigns, publications, events, and deliverables using project management tools like ClickUp.
- Oversee internal and external contributors—including consultants, contractors, and agency partners—to ensure timely delivery of high-impact, on-brand materials.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to manage the communications budget, ensuring effective use of resources and alignment with strategic priorities.
Qualifications & Skills
- 7–10 years of experience in leading complex strategic communications, marketing, public relations, and/ or brand management projects.
- 3+ years of project management experience.
- 3+ years of event logistics experience
- Proven leadership in developing and executing marketing & communications plans and programs, leveraging market research data, and developing tactics aimed at various target audiences and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Excellent written (editing, and content development skills across formats and audiences) and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in internal and external collaborations, including media relations is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), customer relationship management tools (CRM), and basic graphic design software, as well as email marketing, social media management, analytics tools, and website management.
- Familiarity in developing, analyzing and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated experience with knowledge transfer, sustainability, circular economy, and/or plastics considered a strong asset.
- Working experience with software currently in use is considered an asset, which includes Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Slack, Wordpress, Zapnito, ClickUp, Airtable, Hubspot, Miro.
- Communication Management Professional (CMP) certification is an asset.
- Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation by the International Association of Business Communicators or Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by the Canadian Public Relations Society designation is an asset.
- Experience in the execution of capital campaigns is an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
