Reporting to the Manager, Virtual Care within the Health Information Unit (HIU), the Virtual Care Coordinator (Coordinator) has the responsibility for supporting the effective implementation and ongoing operations of a diverse and evolving range of virtual care services at the site, regional, and community level. The position operates within a territorial and regional environment with emphasis on the remote delivery of health care services which will have significant impact on scope and availability of those services and implications that could affect the standard level of care for Nunavut residents.
The Coordinator contributes to the organization through the development and support of a territory-wide system that allows for the delivery and support of health services using advanced medical devices and health information technologies. The Coordinator supports the use of advanced technologies such as video conferencing, secure messaging, patient portals and remote patient monitoring to design, develop, implement, and support new health care services on a territorial basis. In many cases, these being services that could not be delivered through conventional means. The Coordinator will also oversee and work directly with Virtual Care Site Facilitators/Schedulers on a day-to-day virtual care operations, including scheduling, patient registration, and consultation support. Other duties may also include working with OSHNI, Ongomiizzwin, KIS and other out of territory case managers to develop processes and programs to reduce unnecessary medical travel via increased virtual care consultations.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized degree in information technology, health informatics, nursing, or a related field. Two (2) years’ experience developing and evaluating virtual care programs and services is also required. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
