OVERVIEW
 

We are seeking a highly analytical and self-directed Business Data Analyst to support data research, data mapping, and curation activities across the Data Analytics Center of Excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional partners — including data engineering, analytics, and business teams — to research data sources, translate business needs into technical data requirements, and support the development of scalable data platforms.

This role is ideal for a curious, detail-oriented data professional who excels in structured environments and is comfortable mining data warehouses, building source-to-target mappings, and collaborating on data-driven solutions.

Location: Remote, Ontario
Contract Length: 6 Months (Extension Likely; Potential for FTE Conversion TBD)
Hours: 9 AM–5:30 PM EST (7.5 hrs/day + lunch)
Experience Level: Intermediate to Senior (5–7+ years)

 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Mine, profile, and curate data from enterprise data warehouses to support diverse business reporting needs.

  • Elicit, document, and validate data requirements by collaborating with business stakeholders and analytics teams.

  • Translate high-level business concepts into actionable requirements, detailed data maps, and transformation logic.

  • Develop source-to-target mapping specifications for new and existing data integrations.

  • Perform advanced SQL queries, data profiling, and validation to ensure data completeness and accuracy.

  • Prepare clear and concise documentation to support development of new data platform components and integrations.

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure proper implementation of mappings and transformation rules.

  • Ensure adherence to data quality, governance, compliance, and proper handling of sensitive data (including masking).

  • Support testing efforts by validating datasets, identifying issues, and driving remediation.

  • Maintain knowledge repositories, tracking issues, data definitions, and mapping updates.

  • Work effectively in a self-directed environment with evolving requirements and shifting priorities.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, timely, and well-structured data solutions.

  • Anticipate business questions and proactively design data views or reporting frameworks to support insight needs.

 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in data analysis, business data mapping, or data research roles.

  • Strong ability to understand business reporting requirements and determine associated data needs.

  • Demonstrated experience writing complex SQL, performing data mining, and profiling structured data sources.

  • Proven ability to design source-to-target mappings and document transformation specifications.

  • Experience preparing data documentation, requirements, and mapping artifacts for development teams.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-framing skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working independently in self-directed scenarios with flexible or evolving requirements.

  • Proficiency with relational databases and SQL-based data analysis workflows.

  • Understanding of data quality, compliance requirements, and sensitive data handling practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, MIS, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

Preferred

  • Experience with modern data platforms or ETL/ELT tools.

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data management best practices.

  • Exposure to BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
