POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Communications Manager provides strategic leadership for all internal and external communications at Haida Child & Family (HCF). The role is responsible for shaping and stewarding HCF’s communications to advance organizational priorities, strengthen relationships, and reflect Haida ways of being. The Communications Manager leads the development and implementation of an integrated HCF communications strategy and provides oversight of key publications, digital presence, and public‑facing materials, with a focus on clarity, consistency, and cultural relevance. In addition, the Communications Manager provides strategic communications support for organizational initiatives and events and ensures digital platforms are effectively managed to support engagement and visibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with HCF’s mission, values, and strategic priorities, for both internal and external communications
· Produce engaging content for newsletters, reports, our website, and press releases that reflects Haida culture, supports community engagement and ensure consistent messaging
· Create social media content
· Design advertisements, job postings, brochures and forms as needed
· Collect stories and photographs during HCF programs and events when appropriate to use in communications materials
· Support the development and implementation of effective advocacy and communications initiatives that raise awareness of HCF for Haida Citizens
· Work closely with community partners, Knowledge Holders, and team members to ensure communications reflect Haida ways of being and respond to community needs
· Create a HCF media kit and oversee branding guidelines and ensure consistency across all media to strengthen HCF’s reputation as a trusted community resource
· Act as the primary contact for any media inquiries and prepare/draft key messages for public statements
· Support and promote HCF events ensuring culturally appropriate representation and facilitating community involvement
· Manage HCF’s social media accounts and website, ensuring that online content is up-to-date, culturally respectful, and informative. This includes engaging online with our audience and expanding HCF’s online outreach
· Track communication metrics and prepare regular reports to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and outreach efforts. Collate program and event feedback to present to relevant team members
· Prepare and share internal communications such as meeting schedules, personnel updates, staff events, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Knowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities
· Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field related to communications or public relations
· A minimum of 2 years employment experience in a related role; experience with Indigenous communities is preferred

· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
· Strong proficiency in social media platforms, content management systems, and digital analytics tools
· Experience in graphic design software, Wordpress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and other communications platforms
· Excellent computer literacy for Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software
· Strong organizational and project management abilities
· Ability to work both independently and in a team based collaborative environment
· Applicant must successfully undergo a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information with discretion
· Other relevant combinations of skills, education and experience may be considered
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Travel between communities will be required
· Monday to Friday schedule but flexibility is needed from time to time based on agency needs, including occasional weekends and evenings
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a BC Driver’s License and possess their own vehicle
· Must be willing and able to work remotely
