The mission of the Engineering Manager at Cozey
As an Engineering Manager at Cozey, you’ll drive impact through a balance of deep technical expertise, strong people’s leadership, and a sharp focus on business outcomes. You’ll design systems, write and review code, and guide a high-performing team through complex challenges with clarity and purpose. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with a strong product mindset - partnering with cross-functional teams to solve real business problems and deliver pragmatic, high-impact solutions that enhance the customer experience. You won’t just measure success by technical delivery - you’ll be accountable for how engineering decisions drive business results. As a culture carrier, you’ll lead by example: setting technical direction, driving execution, nurturing talent, and instilling a strong sense of purpose and clarity across the team.
What you'll be doing
- Define and drive the technical direction for your team, ensuring alignment with Cozey’s strategy. Lead the execution of complex initiatives through sound architectural decisions and hands-on problem-solving to deliver measurable business value.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and operations to uncover real user and operational pain points, applying problem-first thinking and business acumen to lead focused engineering efforts that deliver high-impact solutions with clarity, precision, and urgency.
- Proactively identify technical and operational gaps in your team’s domain and work with your team to craft well-thought-out solutions, not just execute tasks handed down.
- Drive technical excellence through thoughtful code reviews, while also fostering team growth through role-specific expectations, regular 1:1s, and ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Hire, grow, and retain exceptional engineers by fostering a high-performance, inclusive team culture. Own the scaling strategy for your team from recruiting top talent to defining the right structure and processes that enable sustainable, high-velocity execution.
- Motivate your team with clarity, ownership, and purpose-creating an environment where engineers feel empowered, mission-driven, and energized to do their best work.
We'd love to hear from you if you have
- 5+ years of experience in software development and building scalable backend systems, preferably using TypeScript and Node.js.
- 2+ years of experience as a hands-on technical leader or engineering manager, with a track record of building, scaling, and leading high-performing teams in fast-paced environments.
- A deeply customer and business-obsessed mindset that anchors your technical and leadership decisions - you prioritize what truly matters to users and the business, driving impact through smart trade-offs and pragmatic solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills - you work effectively across engineering, product, design, and operations to align teams and drive results.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills - from setting direction and providing feedback to supporting growth and building strong, cohesive teams.
