Job Title: Manager of Operations



Position Overview

The Manager of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing field and operational activities for the organization. This position ensures compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices while managing contractors, field staff and supporting project delivery. The role emphasizes operational excellence, invasive species management, and effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Operations also plays a critical role in the implementation and delivery of the organization’s operational training programs and contributes to strategic planning and board reporting.


Key Responsibilities


1. Project Management

  • Act as project manager for field and operational projects, ensuring timely execution, deliverable completion, quality control, and reporting
  • Manage and supervise contractors and field staff or field projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee project planning and execution, including scheduling, resource allocation, logistics coordination and reporting
  • Apply Best Management Practices (BMP) and ensure adherence to relevant standards
  • Provide effective training, mentoring and coaching for field-based staff, including seasonal teams


2. Safety & Compliance

  • Chair the OHS committee for the organization, and/or ensure an effective OHS committee 
  • Maintain and enforce health, safety, and emergency response protocols for all operational and Council activities
  • Ensure staff and contractors hold appropriate safety certifications and training 
  • Participate in risk management and policy development to strengthen operational systems
  • Ensure safety protocols and procedures are implemented across all Council work 


3. Technical Expertise & Oversight

  • Provide professional oversight and sign-off on field activities in compliance with regulatory and ecological standards
  • Apply strong working knowledge of invasive species and integrated management strategies
  • Ensure and support operational decisions with sound ecological and technical judgment


4. Training & Capacity Building

  • In collaboration with Manager, Science and Research, oversee onboarding and technical training for staff, interns, and volunteers in scientific methods, data management, restoration and invasive species management
  • Lead the delivery of the Council’s training programs including:
    • Pesticide Applicator Certification (PAC) training
    • Capacity building programs aligned with Indigenous communities
    • General invasive species management training, including integrated pest management (IPM) principles
  • Oversee the Training Team to implement the organizations Training Plan, ensuring training goals, schedules and program improvements are integrated into operational planning
  • Support evaluation and continuous improvement of training content, delivery, and accessibility


5. Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and support field technicians and other staff involved in operation-based programs
  • Collaborate across departments to align operational practices into activities
  • Participate in Council interviews and contribute to recruitment processes for field-related roles
  • Mentor field staff and foster a learning-centered environment that encourages innovation and collaboration
  • Foster a learning-center, collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement


6. Organizational Collaboration

  • Collaborate with finance, communications, and engagement teams to ensure alignment with organizational strategy
  • Contribute to annual work planning and operational strategy development


7. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in field operations, project management, or restoration, including contractor supervision
  • Degree or diploma in environmental science, natural resource management, or related field; professional designation in natural resources or project management is an asset
  • PAC certification or willingness to complete PAC training
  • Strong knowledge of invasive species management, especially invasive plants control and Integrated Pest Management
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote or project sites as required
