Position Overview



We are seeking an experienced Underground / Earthworks Estimator to support civil construction projects across Alberta. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for underground utilities, earthworks, and site development projects, while identifying risks and opportunities during the tender phase.

The ideal candidate has strong technical estimating skills, a solid understanding of civil construction methods, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.



Key Responsibilities



  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for underground utilities, earthworks, and civil construction scopes
  • Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
  • Analyze tender documents, drawings, and geotechnical reports
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Develop pricing strategies and bid summaries
  • Identify constructability issues, risks, and value-engineering opportunities
  • Support handover from estimating to project execution teams
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and lessons learned


Qualifications & Experience



  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in underground utilities and earthworks
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Underground services (water, sewer, storm, deep utilities)
    • Earthworks, mass excavation, and site grading
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with estimating software and MS Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Assets



  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Experience with Alberta civil construction projects
  • Familiarity with unit-rate, lump-sum, and design-build tenders
